Canine Helpers for the Disabled Inc.

Canine Helpers for the Disabled Inc. is a non-profit association that trains Assistance Dogs for people with different disabilities:

  • Hearing Dogs for the hearing impaired,
  • Service dogs for people with physical disabilities,
  • Therapy Dogs for people with emotional, psychologicalor social disorders, and for children, and
  • Facility Dogs for Special Schools and Rehabilitation Programs.

Canine Helpers for the Disabled Inc. is a member of Assistance Dogs International and all of our dogs are accredited under their standards. We serve clients anywhere in Australia except far north Queensland and the greater Sydney Area.

Canine Helpers for the Disabled Inc. accepts tax deductible donations towards the training of Assistance Dogs. Since our incorporation in early 2002 we have certified 18 Assistance Dog Teams.

Canine Helpers for the Disabled Inc. is the leader in Australia in placing Facility Dogs in special schools. These dogs actually perform tasks that help with the therapeutic, physiotherapeutic and educational goals of the students in the schools. We have placed four Facility Dogs in Special Schools. In May 2004 our Facility Dogs won the Education Queensland Showcase Award for Innovation in the Bayside District. We have placed our first certified, full-time Facility Dog in an Australian hospital in August 2007.

Canine Helpers for the Disabled Inc. works with animal shelters and rescue groups wherever possible to give unwanted dogs a great new life. We also accept donations of pups from breeders. Many breeds are used.

Membership of Canine helpers for the Disabled Inc. is open to the public.
