Dogs 'n' Kids - The Safety Centre, Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne

Dogs ‘n’ Kids is a nationwide program, created by the Safety Centre of the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne in conjunction with other Safety Units, the Child Injury Prevention Working Party, local government authorities and health professionals.
It aims to reduce the incidence and severity of injuries by dogs to children through education. Dogs ‘n’ Kids understands that dogs are integral to our lives and is designed to offer safety information in a positive context with clear key messages and friendly graphics and wording.
The Dogs ‘n’ Kids resources target all people, but in particular, parents of young children, as this is the group most affected by injuries from dogs. Most injuries from dogs occur in the home environment or the area adjacent to the property.
Dogs ‘n’ Kids produces a three-part information package to provide health professionals with a resource to educate parents of young children about safety for children with dogs. It consists of a booklet with information for the health professional, a poster to stimulate conversation within the health setting and a brochure with information for parents.
Dogs ‘n’ Kids is also distributed from many other outlets such as veterinary clinics, local councils, hospitals and Kidsafe offices across Australia.
