Graduate Certificate in Animal Welfare (GAW)

The Graduate Certificate in Animal Welfare is the first course in Australia designed to equip graduates with a sound understanding of animal welfare issues. A particular focus is on human-animal interactions and the way that humans can promote or impede the welfare of animals.
The course is offered by the Department of Psychology at Monash University as a fourth year certificate. It requires the equivalent of one semester of full time study, but this will be undertaken over at least two semesters on a part time basis. Alternatively, students may elect to study the first unit of the course, GAW3010: Ethics and Welfare, as a single subject enrolment. For each unit students are required to attend one day of on campus classes. The remainder of the course is completed off campus, using a web based learning environment.
The Graduate Certificate course is intended to address many needs. Participants include people employed in many animal industries, veterinarians, people employed in the welfare sector, and private individuals interested in exploring the position of animals in our community.
