Lions Hearing Dogs

Our organisation provides dogs for the deaf and hearing impaired people of Australia at no cost to the recipient. The dogs alert their owners to the following sounds in the home by making physical contact
- Door bell or knock;
- Telephone or TTY ringing;
- Smoke alarm;
- Alarm clock;
- Baby crying;
- Oven timer;
- Whistling kettle;
- Other miscellaneous sounds.
All we require to put the process in motion is a name and postal address and we mail out the application material.
Our dogs are only intended for adults and they must have a fenced area with a height of 1.5 metres. The applicant must be physically capable of looking after the dog.
We have been operating now for twenty-two years and are a project of the Lions Clubs of Australia. We deliver a new dog somewhere in Australia every seventeen days – dogs are delivered direct to their new owner by training staff who spend a week settling the dog in its new home.
