Royal Guide Dogs Association of Tasmania

The Royal Guide Dogs Association of Tasmania is the sole provider of services to blind and vision-impaired citizens in Tasmania. We are a broadly based community service organisation with offices in Hobart, Launceston and Devonport.

Our Mission is to provide high quality, international standard services, which increase the quality of life for vision-impaired people and assist them to achieve their full potential within the community.

The Royal Guide Dogs Association of Tasmania was established in 1965. In 1988 they assumed responsibility for services to the vision-impaired community that for over 100 years previously had been provided by the Royal Tasmanian Society for the Blind and Deaf. We provide, totally free of charge, a range of rehabilitation services for blind and vision-impaired Tasmanians.

The Guide Dog is our flagship - each dog costs the Association $25,000 to provide. In addition, we provide orientation and mobility, occupational therapy, adaptive technology and life-skills programmes to children. We operate Low Vision Clinics in the north of the state in conjunction with the Tasmanian Lions Foundation and refer to low vision clinics in the south.

Being a charitable organisation, our ongoing service delivery in Tasmania is dependent upon the goodwill and generosity of the Tasmanian public, corporate sector sponsorship, commercial operations and fundraising activities. Our professional staff is always available to assist with any queries.
